In the human oral cavity, Streptococcus mutans is often observed and a major contributor to tooth decay. Increased S. levels may be linked progressively more severe forms of periodontal disease because root exposure in people with periodontitis increases caries rates. Hence, new potential antibacterial compound needs searched combat this pathogenic bacterium. The butterfly pea, or Clitoria ternatea an ornamental plant that has been reported exhibit properties against several bacteria. Thus, goal investigation was determine how well C. aqueous (CTA) extract inhibited mutans. disk diffusion assay performed access CTA extract. efficiency test bacterium then determined through MIC/MBC determinations time-kill study. Meanwhile, toxicity tested using brine shrimp lethality (BSLA). demonstrated substantial activity at concentration 200 mg/ml, diameter inhibition zone 13.4±0.4 mm, according disc assay. extract’s MIC MBC values were found 100 400 g/mL, respectively. Time-kill analysis revealed exerted strong bactericidal effect on dose-dependent. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) exhibited bacterial cells experienced damage after being exposed including formation cavities, irregular shape, crumpled cells. present study suggested as agent cavity bacteria can used formulation natural mouthwash due no effect.
